While You Sleep

May fairy fingers soothe your body
And golden slumbers caress your eyes.
May moonbeams enchant your secret dreams
And carry you safe through somnolent skies.
May gently pointed pixie digits
Pick the portals to your dormant soul,
Flooding the deepest chambers of sleep
With fresh-faced pictures conjured from old.
May you float freely on silent streams,
Stroking the rippling ribbons of thought,
Dipping your twitching fingers and toes
In the opportune kingdoms you court.
May knights of the realm shield your spirit
From obscurity’s enticing spells,
And drain the dregs of uncertainty
From your heart, where the dreamcatcher dwells.
May each breath draw in peace and promise
And blow away delusion and doubt.
May the spectrum of nightly visions
Paint the hopes you are never without.
May the reveries of your spent day
Ignite themselves and smoulder anew,
As you tread in tentative footsteps,
Ever close to discov’ring the truth.
May clutches of rosy cheeked cherubs
Levitate you with their chubby arms,
And suspend you in graceful glory
Above the fiends which threaten to harm.
May uncharted waters of wonder
Run alongside your conscious concerns,
Meandering through your emotions
Seeking magical lessons to learn.
May you inwardly open your eyes
To the beauty of this latent sphere.
The moment your dreams are realised
You no longer have reason to fear.
And while showers of prancing angels
Embrace you with their gossamer mist,
I’ll weave your wand’ring thoughts into mine
When I kindle your heart with my kiss.
